Syracuse's Top Recruit Fails To Qualify

Friday, June 27, 2014 2:53pm

Two of Syracuse’s 2014 signees — including arguably its No. 1 recruit in the class — will not qualify academically and will not enroll this fall, the Syracuse Post-Standard is reporting.

Wide receiver K.J. Williams, a four-star receiver from Pennsylvania, did not meet the NCAA’s requirements of GPA and standardized test scores. He was a strong candidate for early playing time this season. When he signed in February, he became the Orange’s highest-rated recruit since at least 2010, according to 247Sports.

Treevon Prater, a three-star defensive back from St. Louis, also failed to qualify.

The next step for these two players is currently unknown. The typical course is for non-qualifiers to either enroll in a one-year prep school or a junior college. At that point, their signed letters of intent are no longer binding, and they’re able to open their recruitments to more suitors.
