Coach: Randy Shannon

2008 Miami Signees:

Recent Recruiting Rankings (By Rivals.com): No. 8, No. 5, No. 4, No. 7, No. 14 under Larry Coker from 2002-06; No. 19 under Shannon in 2007. Consensus 2008 Prep All-Americans: KS LB Arthur Brown, FL S Ramon Buchanan, FL DT Marcus Forston, FL LB Jordan Futch, FL CB Brandon Harris, FL QB Jacory Harris, FL DB C.J. Holton, FL WR Aldarius Johnson, FL ATH Davon Johnson, FL OL Benjamin Jones, FL DT Jeremy Lewis, FL LB Marcus Robinson, FL LB Sean Spence, FL WR Tommy Streeter, CA S Vaughn Telemaque, FL OL Brandon Washington. Interesting Story: The Hurricanes secured letters of intent from eight players from Miami’s Northwestern High: defensive tackle Marcus Forston, quarterback Jacory Harris, wide receiver Aldarius Johnson, offensive lineman Benjamin Jones, linebacker Sean Spence, wide receiver Tommy Streeter, wide receiver Kendall Thompkins and offensive lineman Brandon Washington. The Bulls posted back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2006 and 2007, going a combined 30-0 and winning consecutive Florida Class 6A (largest schools) state titles. In addition, Northwestern was given the mythical high school "national championship" by entities including ESPN and USA Today, in 2007. Top 2008 Recruiters: Defensive line coach Clint Hurtt made a strong case for the top position coach recruiter nationally in the Class of 2008, as he served as the lead recruiter for no fewer than seven prospects with a four-star or higher rating by Rivals.com, including the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle (Fortson), No. 19 defensive tackle (Lewis), No. 4 outside linebacker (Robinson) and No. 13 outside linebacker (Spence). Hurtt also served as the lead recruiter for several prominent wide receivers who signed with Miami, including Travis Benjamin, Aldarius Johnson and Tommy Streeter. States Represented (9): California, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia. Academic Worries: many, including Patrick Hill, Benjamin Jones and Brandon Washington. Key Misses: FL CB Patrick Johnson (LSU), AL ATH Burton Scott (Alabama), MS CB Alonzo Lawrence (Alabama), CA CB Aaron Hester (UCLA), FL DT Corey Liuget (Illinois), GA DE Toby Jackson (Georgia), NY DE Mikhail Marinovich (Syracuse), VA OT Vinston Painter (Virginia Tech), FL OT Matt Patchan (Florida). Quotable Quote: "We’re happy to have the class we have right now. This class is a foundation we’re building on. We’ve got stability, and now it’s preparing us for the next step of what we’re trying to get done. It’s a foundation of a bunch of great student-athletes that have a lot of passion for the university, the game."
