Former college coach Denny Kuiper breaks down the first day of the ACC tournament.

It was an interesting first day. Three of the underdogs won - Virginia, Miami, and N.C. State. But I would not really call those wins upsets. Remember, there is a reason these eight teams played in the opening round. They were either not good enough or did not play well enough to…

All recent contributors to the ACC Sports Journal are in bold.

Boston College looked careless yesterday, like a team that could lose to an undermanned Virginia…

This year will be different. This team is different.

That was the party line Wake Forest’s players kept espousing throughout the 2009-10 campaign. This group of Demon Deacons was tougher. This group was more cohesive.

At least, that’s what the Deacs said. Their recent results – five losses in six games, including an 83-62 head scratcher to Miami in the first…

The regular season is over and the ACC tournament is ready to begin. There is opportunity for everyone in the tournament. The big prize is winning the tournament and cementing an automatic bid to the “Big Dance”. For many of the teams at the bottom of the ACC regular season that is the only hope of a NCAA bid.

But there is much more at stake than just who wins the…
