BLACKSBURG — Frank Beamer arrived at Virginia Tech to be the head coach at his alma mater in 1987, a fresh youngster of 40 who had landed his dream job.

He’ll turn 60 during the 2006 season, his 20th at Tech, and he gradually has turned Blacksburg into one of college football’s top outposts.

Tech has won 11 games in a season three times in its history, all under Beamer….
