Yellow Jackets Back Up Hype
Take away Duke and North Carolina and no ACC team received more preseason hype than Georgia Tech. Armed with one of the nation’s top-rated recruiting classes, the Yellow Jackets were even mentioned as a dark horse contender for the Final Four by some.
Now we finally know why.
The Yellow Jackets, which hadn’t won two games in a row since January,…Defending Champion Tar Heels End Up In NIT urn:uuid:1225c695-cfb8-4ebb-aaaa-80da344efa6a2010-03-14T22:40:19ZDefending Champion Tar Heels End Up In NIT

Defending national champion North Carolina will play another game after all.
The Tar Heels (16-16) earned a No. 4 seed in the NIT on Sunday night despite a frustrating season filled with injuries and youthful mistakes that sent them to their worst finish under coach Roy Williams.
They will host No. 5 seed William & Mary on Tuesday in Chapel Hill, which will mark the…ACC Tournament Centralurn:uuid:1225c695-cfb8-4ebb-aaaa-80da344efa6a2010-03-14T09:48:56ZACC Tournament Central

Former college coach Denny Kuiper breaks down the first day of the ACC tournament.
It was an interesting first day. Three of the underdogs won - Virginia, Miami, and N.C. State. But I would not really call those wins upsets. Remember, there is a reason these eight teams played in the opening round. They were either not good enough or did not play well enough to…Daily Links, March 12urn:uuid:1225c695-cfb8-4ebb-aaaa-80da344efa6a2010-03-12T05:55:17ZDaily Links, March 12

Today’s batch of Daily Links would like to thank the ACC for expanding. Instead of links to football players in rehab, there were four games and eight teams worth of action yesterday. And the best part? Those games were unpredictably good.
All recent contributors to the ACC Sports Journal are in bold.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Derrick Favors had 18 points and nine rebounds to help Georgia Tech hold off North Carolina 62-58 in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament Thursday night.
Gani Lawal added 12 points for the seventh-seeded Yellow Jackets (20-11), who had to fight the entire way to earn a needed victory for their shaky NCAA tournament chances.…Jim Young’s Thursday Courtside ACC Tournament Blogurn:uuid:1225c695-cfb8-4ebb-aaaa-80da344efa6a2010-03-11T20:11:19ZJim Young’s Thursday Courtside ACC Tournament Blog

Sights, sounds and observations (updated throughout the day) from press row in Greensboro on the first day of the ACC Tournament:
A $1 Million Victory?: Georgia Tech took a huge step toward an NCAA Tournament at-large bid with its win over North Carolina. The regular season is over and the ACC tournament is ready to begin. There is opportunity for everyone in the tournament. The big prize is winning the tournament and cementing an automatic bid to the “Big Dance”. For many of the teams at the bottom of the ACC regular season that is the only hope of a NCAA bid.
But there is much more at stake than just who wins the…
