We've talked about it in this space before: Paul Johnson needs talented offensive linemen to run his triple option attack. Last night, the Yellow Jackets added another one: Gary Brown - three-star guard from Tampa (Fla.) Alonso High.
At 6-1, 290 pounds Brown certainly seems to have the right body type to fit into the Yellow Jackets' offense. Playing guard for Johnson requires a lot. They must have the ability to pull off the line and get out on the perimeter. Brown doesn't seem to have a problem shouldering a lot of weight, though; he has a reported max squat weight of 555 pounds - which, wow, is a lot.
Gaining the services of Brown, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 68 offensive guard in the nation, was no easy task, either. The Tampa-native had offers from 18 FBS schools, including Nebraska, N.C. State, Missouri, and Maryland.
