Virginia Tech Lands Phillips

Virginia Tech landed its second commitment in three days on Wednesday when Cameron Phillips out of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha committed to the Hokies.

Phillips is a 6-foot, 178-pound receiver, highly regarded three-star commit who chose Virginia Tech over Virginia, Penn State, Connecticut and West Virginia.

He is the ninth-ranked prospect in the state of Maryland and 55th-ranked wide receiver nationally .

This comes as a bit of surprise according to the experts at 247 Sports, had Phillips picking Virginia over Virginia Tech and Penn State.

He was recruited by Aaron Moorehead, the wide receiver coach at Virginia Tech.

Phillips has great hands, with an exceptional ability to catch the ball in traffic. His potential is very high and was he very close to achieving a four-star ranking after the summer he has had.

He made his visit to Blacksburg on July 17th after being offered on May 21st. The visit paid off in a big way for head coach Frank Beamer, who landed one of the best receivers in the class.

With the commitment of Phillips, the (three of whom are 2013 signees now at prep school) and are ranked 15th nationally in 247Sports.com's composite team rankings.
