Notre Dame and Mike Brey have the first commitment of their 2014 recruiting class: Martin Geben.
A variety of recruiting services – Scout, Rivals and 247 Sports – have Geben pegged as a four-star prospect that projects out as a stretch-forward. The 6-9, 230 pound big man has a very soft shooting touch, which will certainly be featured in Brey’s half court offense.
Notre Dame has yet to actually play an ACC basketball game, but they took down several of their future opponents to land Geben. Virginia was a major play for the Lithuanian, but they weren’t the only ACC school in the mix for Geben; Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Miami were all interested.
In the end, though, Geben picked the Irish. Geben, who plays his high school ball in Maryland, and his family visited the South Bend campus last weekend, and ostensibly, fell in love with what the saw. After the visit, it was a no-brainer for Geben: he will be taking his talents to the Midwest.
Once Geben gets on campus, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to see his skills. He will likely be expected to contribute, significantly, as a freshman.
