GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse’s C.J. Fair has named the Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week, while the Orange’s Tyler Ennis and Duke’s Jabari Parker earned ACC Co-Rookie of the Week honors.
Fair was named ACC Player of the Week for the first time after a pair of solid performances that helped vault the unbeaten Orange (21-0) to the best start in program history and a No. 1 national ranking. The Baltimore native scored a career-high 28 points in Saturday night’s ACC showdown against now 11th-ranked Duke at the Carrier Dome, keying Syracuse to a 91-89 overtime win. Fair shot 60 percent from the floor (12-of-20) against the Blue Devils. The performance followed a 16-point, 8-rebound effort in last Wednesday’s game at Wake Forest, which led the Orange to a 67-57 league road win. For the week, Fair averaged 22 points and 6.5 rebounds in the two ACC wins.
Ennis earned his fourth ACC Rookie of the Week honor. The Brampton, Ontario, native averaged 16 points and seven assists in the wins over Wake Forest and Duke. After scoring 18 points in the Wednesday night win over Wake Forest, Ennis had 14 points and nine assists against the Blue Devils and converted 8-of-8 from the line. Overall, Ennis connected on 13-of-14 shots from the foul line in the two games and committed just four turnovers in 80 minutes played.
Duke’s Parker averaged 18.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game as Duke topped then-No. 18 Pittsburgh (80-65) before falling in overtime to then-No. 2 Syracuse (91-89) in overtime. On ESPN’s Big Monday, he recorded his third straight double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in the win over the Panthers. He added one assist, one block and one steal in the win. Parker just missed his fourth consecutive double-double in the loss to Syracuse, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds and two steals in just 26 minutes of action. The ACC Rookie of the Week honor is the Chicago native’s sixth of the season
