Syracuse Pursuing Two Linemen in 2015

Syracuse football coach Scott Shafer is hoping to tap into the lucrative talent mine that is St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He’s doing it by targeting a pair of offensive linemen.

Shafer recently extended an offer to 2015 offensive tackle Colin Byrne. Syracuse is the first school to offer the 6-5, 300-pound prospect, who is currently unrated.

Byrne is teammates with Samuel Clausman, a guard who already holds a Syracuse offer. Clausman is 6-4, 301 pounds and is also currently unrated. Syracuse is Clausman’s only offer at this time.

By getting involved before their senior seasons, Shafer positions himself well to at least get a visit from both offensive line prospects.

Even if Byrne and Clausman don’t become highly regarded recruits, Shafer’s recruitment of them could be a statement move to build relationships with the St. Thomas Aquinas staff. STA is one of the premier high school football programs in the country and routinely churns out Division I recruits.

Recent STA alums include North Carolina’s Giovani Bernard, Florida State’s Lamarcus Joyner and Rashad Greene, Miami’s Brandon Linder, Georgia’s Geno Atkins and Ohio State’s Duron Carter — to name a few. The school sent eight players to Division I schools in the 2014 class.
