Boston College picked up its 22nd commitment for the 2014 class when Sherman Alston committed to the Eagles on Friday.
Alston is a 5-foot-7, 165-pound all purpose back out of St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, NJ.
Although he has primarily played running back in high school, it is expected that he will play slot receiver for head coach Steve Addazio and Boston College. He will also likely be a return man with his speed.
As a junior last year, Alston carried the ball 103 times for 806 yards and 12 touchdowns. His 8.7 yards per carry is a pretty eye-popping statistic, and has to be appealing to Boston College fans.
Alston chose the Eagles over offers from Albany, Bryant, Delaware and New Hampshire. Even though the schools that have offered are not necessarily powerhouses, the coaching staff for BC felt like he was going to get a lot more attention during his senior season.
With a 4.46 40 and his size, Alston is definitely a speedster and will put that to good use in slant and crossing routes at the flanker and slot receiver positions.
Boston College may be taking a chance on Alston, but as the 22nd recruit for the class and with his lightning speed, this could be a move that pays off well for Coach Addazio.
