GREENSBORO, N.C. – Pitt senior guard Lamar Patterson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Clemson freshman Jaron Blossomgame earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors.
Patterson, a native of Lancaster, Pa., averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the floor and 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from 3-point range in Pitt’s ACC wins over Maryland and Wake Forest. He scored a team-high 19 points in a 20-point win over Maryland, then scored a game-high 27 points and dished out six assists in a 15-point win over Wake Forest.
The Tigers’ Blossomgame had his first career double-double in Clemson’s 13-point win over No. 16 Duke on Saturday. The Alpharetta, Ga., native posted career highs of 14 points and 14 rebounds, the latter figure representing the most by an ACC freshman this season. The 14 rebounds were also the most in a game by a Clemson freshman since Chris Hobbs pulled down 15 against The Citadel in 2000. Blossomgame played a season-high 35 minutes against Duke without a turnover and made multiple 3-point field goals (two) for the first time in his young career.
