Peach State Again Offers Bountiful Crop

Thursday, September 11, 2008 11:41am

While the upper echelon of Georgia's gridiron talent in the Class of 2008 plays primarily on offense, the top 10 is well-balanced with a mixture of wide receivers, running backs, defensive linemen, offensive linemen and defensive backs. This year's class is particularly loaded with defensive linemen, as five (No. 1 DeAngelo Tyson, No. 7 Cornelius Washington, No. 8 Brandon Thompson, No. 11 Toby Jackson, No. 12 Keith Wells) are ranked within the top 12.

Among ACC schools, Georgia Tech has been especially productive recruiting within its own Peach State borders. The Yellow Jackets have secured commitments from four top-50 players (No. 22 Steven Sylvester, No. 36 Chris Jackson, No. 45 Nick McRae, No. 47 T.J. Pridemore), along with two more (Kamaron Riley, Cooper Taylor) on our "others worth watching" list.

Other ACC schools with commitments from Georgia's top 50 include Florida State (Wells, No. 24 Terrance Parks), Clemson (No. 3 A.J. Harmon), North Carolina (No. 16 Ebele Okakpu), Duke (No. 42 Matt Daniels) and Boston College (No. 43 Justin Tuggle). ACC programs also have successfully recruited multiple Peach State prospects in our "others worth watching" list, including Clemson (Jon Richt), Duke (Curtis Hazelton, Nigel Nicholas), N.C. State (Zach Allen), Virginia (Javaris Brown), Virginia Tech (Cameron Demps) and Wake Forest (Terence Davis, Gabe Irby).

The Georgia Bulldogs also have had plenty of success in-state this year, with commitments from four of the top seven ranked players (Tyson, No. 2 Richard Samuel, No. 5 Tavarres King, Washington) and nine of the top 50. Other non-ACC schools that have pledges from top-50 prospects in Georgia include Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, Auburn, Purdue, Central Florida and Arkansas.
