In the six years that coach David Cutcliffe has led the Blue Devils on the football field, he’s never received a commitment from a recruit as highly touted as the one he just picked up from quarterback Nicodem Pierre.
Passing up offers from Clemson, Kansas State, Louisville, Nebraska and Wisconsin, the 203-pound QB made the decision during an on-campus visit Wednesday after the ACC Football Kickoff.
Posting a 4.82 sec 40-yard dash at the Nike SPARQ Combine in Miami, Coral Reef High’s 6-foot-2 gunslinger ranks seventh among dual threat quarterbacks according to ESPN, and is ranked No. 256 overall in the class of 2014.
Having not only the ability to throw, but to run as well, Pierre’s capabilities are similar to those of Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater, ESPN Recruiting Nation claimed. Though Pierre is at his best when he’s throwing the ball, his height and agility make him a playmaker on the ground, too.
Pierre is the second quarterback in the 2014 class to commit to the Blue Devils — Johnathan Lloyd from Graham, North Carolina committed earlier this summer.
