Florida is always a hotbed of elite gridiron talent, and the Class of 2008 is no exception.

The Sunshine State is particularly rich this year with defenders, as seven of the 10 top-ranked prospects play on that side of the ball, including four linebackers (No. 1 Nigel Bradham, No. 7 Nigel Carr, No. 9 Etienne Sabino, No. 10 Marcus Robinson), two defensive backs (No. 2 T.J. Bryant, No. 3 Patrick Johnson), and a defensive tackle (No. 5 Marcus Forston). Three more linebackers (No. 11 Ramon Buchanon, No. 15 Lerentee McCray, No. 18 Jordan Futch) are ranked in the top 20.

In-state programs Miami and Florida State have cleaned up the overwhelming majority of the talent, with a combined 21 commitments from the top 50. The Hurricanes have pledges from no fewer than 13 such Florida players (Johnson, Forston, No. 8 Aldarius Johnson, Robinson, Buchanon, McCray, Futch, No. 19 Brandon Washington, No. 26 Sean Spence, No. 28 Jeremy Lewis, No. 32 Micanor Regis, No. 47 Joe Wylie, No. 48 Davon Johnson), while the Seminoles have commitments from eight top-50 prospects (Bradham, Carr, No. 13 C.J. Holton, No. 27 Vincent Williams, No. 30 Moses McCray, No. 34 Avis Commack, No. 37 Travis Arnold, No. 46 Jermaine Thomas). The Hurricanes and Seminoles also have a combined five commitments on our "others worth watching" list.

Other ACC schools that have acquired top-50 Florida prospects this year include Georgia Tech (No. 39 Alfred Jenkins) and Clemson (No. 49 Kyle Parker). The Yellow Jackets (Embry Peeples, Richard Watson) and Tigers (Xavier Brewer, Matt Sanders) also have commitments in the "others worth watching" list, along with Wake Forest (Scott Betros, Ramon Booi, Ted Stachitas) and Duke (Brian Moore, Donovan Varner).

As in most years, many schools from other states have raided talent from the Sunshine State during this recruiting season. Some of the schools that have commitments from Florida prospects include Ohio State, Alabama, Illinois, Georgia, Rutgers, West Virginia, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Louisville, Cincinnati, Wisconsin and South Carolina.
