The ACC Tournament is moving up a day. The championship game will now be played on Saturday, rather than Sunday, which had become tradition for the conference. The final game of the tournament has been on a Sunday ever since 1982.

The change goes into effect immediately. The 2015 ACC Tournament will run from Tuesday to Saturday. The conference said the switch was mutually agreed upon by ACC officials and ESPN.

A Saturday final is not a first for the conference. The first 28 tournaments all had championship games on Saturday before switching to Sunday finals.

“This is kind of a ‘Back to the Future’ moment for our conference,” ACC Commissioner John Swofford said in a release. “The Sunday championship game worked tremendously well for more than three decades, but I believe our schools, teams and our fans will be excited about crowning a champion on Saturday night. This will be a win-win for everyone involved.”

The 2015 championship game will be held in primetime, at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. The semifinal games will be held at 7 and 9 p.m. on Friday. Every game will still be televised by both ESPN and the ACC Network.
