# — number of 2002-03 grants available would be higher without NCAA's five/eight rule

NOTE: The NCAA returns to a modified five/eight rule with the Class of 2003. Under this complex rule, most schools again will be limited to five scholarship signees in any single year and eight in any two-year period. However, there are some scenarios in which programs will be able to sign six scholarship players in one year and/or nine over two years. These exceptions involve cases where a school loses more than five academically eligible scholarship players in one year or more than eight in a two-year period.
