ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 10

Thursday, November 7, 2013 11:08am

My bad, people.

(Taps chest)

I won't bore you with the details. Just know that I'm way behind schedule with these power rankings, and I know it.

So I'm going to borrow a page from Bill Simmons and do what he does when he hasn't had time to really put together a comprehensive NFL picks column: I'm going to massively abbreviate things.

How abbreviated? Let's see if we can pay homage to Twitter and give 140 characters or less to each school, shall we?

NO. 1 FLORIDA STATE

@accsports - Running the table looks very likely at this point. So FSU fans should be rooting VERY hard for Stanford tonight. #BCS Fun

Record: 8-0, 6-0 ACC

Previous Rank: 1

Last week: Won 41-14 over Miami

This week: Saturday, noon at Wake Forest

NO. 2 CLEMSON

@accsports - 59-10? Now that's more like the Clemson we thought we knew. Timely bye week before big Thursday night game vs. Georgia Tech.

Record: 8-1, 6-1 ACC

Previous Rank: 2

Last week: Won 59-10 at Virginia

This week: Bye week

NO. 3 MIAMI

@accsports - Clemson & Maryland both suffered FSU hangovers after getting drilled by the Noles. Miami has no time to mope with the Hokies coming to town.

Record: 7-1, 3-1 ACC

Previous Rank: 3

Last week: Lost 41-14 at FSU

This week: Saturday, 7 p.m. vs. Virginia Tech

NO. 4 GEORGIA TECH

@accsports - Have the Jackets turned things around? Or just taken advantage of a soft stretch in the schedule? We'll know more next Thursday at Clemson.

Record: 6-3, 5-2 ACC

Previous Rank: 4

Last week: Won 21-10 over Pitt

This week: Bye

NO. 5 DUKE

@accsports - Here's a new one. How will Duke handle expectations and the role of the favorite? The current Vegas line is Duke -10 over N.C. State.

Record: 6-2, 2-2 ACC

Previous Rank: 5

Last Week: Bye week

This Week: Saturday, 4 p.m. vs. N.C. State

NO. 6 VIRGINIA TECH

@accsports - Hokies may be in a downward spiral, but not sure I can move them down. Head-to-head win keeps Hokies ahead of UNC ... for now.

Record: 6-3, 3-2 ACC

Previous Rank: 6

Last Week: Lost 34-27 at BC

This Week: Saturday, 7 p.m. at Miami

NO. 7 NORTH CAROLINA

@accsports - UNC's made it through the rough part of its schdule, but w/out Renner. Will his absence actually simplify the Heels' offensive approach?

Record: 3-5, 2-3 ACC

Previous Rank: 7

Last Week: Won 28-19 at N.C. State

This Week: Saturday, 12:30 p.m. vs. Virginia

NO. 8 BOSTON COLLEGE

@accsports - Usually roll my eyes when coaches talk about "instilling a new attitude." But how else to explain the Eagles' rebound in 2013?

Record: 4-4, 2-3 ACC

Previous Rank: 8

Last Week: Won 34-27 over Virginia Tech

This Week: Saturday, 3:30 at New Mexico St.

Divider

NO. 9 MARYLAND

@accsports - The bye week gave QB C.J. Brown time to recover from his concussion. But Brown still has to make do w/out Stefon Diggs and Deon Long.

Record: 5-3, 1-3 ACC

Previous Rank: 10

Last Week: Bye

This Week: Saturday, 3:30 vs. Syracuse

NO. 10 SYRACUSE

@accsports - I've rolled my eyes every time Scott Shafer has talked about "hard-nosed" football. But I can't find a better way to describe his team.

Record: 4-4, 2-2 ACC

Previous Rank: 12

Last Week: Won 13-0 over Wake Forest

This Week: Saturday, 3:30 p.m. at Maryland

NO. 11 PITT

@accsports - Pitt's rushing total for its past three ACC games? 26 yards. That's it. Tom Savage's sacks depress that total but still ...not good.

Record: 4-4 overall, 2-3 ACC

Previous Rank: 11

Last Week: Lost 21-10 at Georgia Tech

This Week: Saturday, 8 p.m. vs. Notre Dame

NO. 12 WAKE FOREST

@accsports -  Bummed about Campanaroooo. But my grief over my favorite ACC fantasy WR's injury is nothing compared to the loss the Wake offense feels.

Record: 4-5, 2-3 ACC

Previous Rank: 9

Last Week: Lost 13-0 at Syracuse

This Week: Saturday, noon vs. FSU

NO. 13 N.C. STATE

@accsports - Man, seems like Dave Doeren was pretty rough on QB Brandon Mitchell after the UNC loss. And is this the time to start another QB competition?

Record: 3-5, 0-5 ACC

Previous Rank: 13

Last Week: Lost 28-19 to UNC

This Week: Saturday, 4 p.m. at Duke

NO. 14 VIRGINIA

@accsports - I've got 140 characters to come up with something positive to say about UVa football ... Man, I've got nothing right now. Sorry.

Record: 2-7 (0-5 ACC)

Previous Rank: 14

Last Week: Lost 59-10 to Clemson

This Week: Saturday, 12:30 p.m. at UNC
