Another No. 1 is departing North Carolina to pursue his college football career.
Offensive tackle Xavier Nixon from Fayetteville’s Jack Britt High School announced Saturday during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, that he’ll play for the Florida Gators in 2009. Nixon, an athletic 6-foot-6, 275-pounder, entertained offers from more than 40 major-college programs before settling on the Gators, who’ll play for their second BCS championship in three years Thursday.
