BLACKSBURG — As soon as Malcolm Delaney saw hulking teammate Jeff Allen run the floor in June in that Winston-Salem gym, Delaney knew he was dealing with a different big man than the one he remembered last season.

Delaney and Allen weren’t running with any kind of ordinary group, unless you consider a floor full of names such as Jarrett Jack, Rudy Gay, Stephen Curry, Jack McClinton, Tyrese Rice, Ish Smith, L.D. Williams and Wesley Matthews a run-of-the-mill collection of basketball players. It was an elite cast at a camp run by former Wake Forest star Chris Paul, who also played.

Allen understandably was out of his comfort zone at Paul’s Backcourt Skills Camp, but he was holding his own. Sprinting up and down the floor. Finishing fast breaks. Leading breaks. Guarding faster players.
