About an hour after wrapping up his annual golf outing last month, Oliver Purnell arched his eyebrow in response to a reporter’s question.

It was a predictable query about how the team will react to being the hunted instead of the hunter. Boilerplate stuff. But given Clemson’s ground-breaking success last season, the question made some sense.

The Tigers’ third-place finish in the ACC standings was their highest since 1990. Their appearance in the ACC Tournament final was their first since 1962. And their trip to the NCAA Tournament was their first since 1998.
